Christmas
Christmas is a lovely time
The snow lies white and thick Mistletoe is hard to find And holly hard to pick. Gifts wrapped up in Christmas paper
Sitting round the tree so bright Children fast asleep in bed As Santa comes tonight. Tinsel round the windows bright
Pink, orange, red and white Glittering in the evening light Oh, such a lovely sight. Winter Pleasures
What a wealth of jolly things
Good old winter always brings! Ice to skate on, hills to coast-
Don’t know which we like the most! Games to play, and corn to pop-
Midnight seems too soon to stop! Books to read aloud at night,
Songs to sing, and plays to write! Snowmen built on starry nights,
Snow forts held in snowball fights! High wind whirling drifted snow,
Breaths all frosty, cheeks aglow! These and more, chill winter brings-
What a host of jolly things! Autumn
When the trees their summer splendor
Change to rainment red and gold, When the summer moon turns mellow And the nights are getting cold; When the squirrels hide their acorns, And the woodchucks disappear; Then we know that it is autumn, Loveliest season of the year Winter Garden
I wear woolen leggings; I am strong and bold.
Who will come and join me? Who can face the cold? Bushes are now wearing fluffy cloaks of snow. I am feeling lonely; swallow could not stay: Cuckoo, swift and martin all have flown away. Empty nests are staying on the leafless bough. Hedgehog, toad and dormouse must be sleeping now. Squirrels may be hiding in the cedar tree; Rabbit’s in his burrow; who will stay with me? Flakes like tiny feathers float and whirl around, Suddenly Cock Robin hops upon the ground. „No food now,” he twitters, „only bitter frost”; All the meals I long for in the snow are lost. If you give me water and a crumb or two, Through the long, long winter I will stay with you.” November
No sun – no moon!
No morn – no noon – No dawn – no dusk – no proper time of day – No sky – no earthly view – No distance looking blue – No road – no street – no „t’other side the way”– No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease, No comfortable feel in any member – No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees, No fruit, no flowers, no leaves, no birds – No – vember –! The Months
January brings the snow,
makes our feet and fingers glow. February brings the rain,
thaws the frozen lake again. March brings breezes loud and shrill,
stirs the dancing daffodil. April brings the primrose sweet,
scatters daisies at our feet. May brings flocks of pretty lambs
skipping by their fleecy dams. June brings tulips, lilies, roses,
fills the children’s hands with posies. Hot July brings cooling showers,
apricots and gilly – flowers, August brings the sheaves of corn,
then the harvest home is borne. Warm September brings the fruit,
sportsmen then begin to shoot. Fresh October brings the pheasant,
then to gather nuts is pleasant. Dull November brings the blast,
then the leaves are falling fast. Chill December brings the sleet,
blazing fire and Christmas treat. Spring Rain
The spring rain danced across our roof;
It tapped its happy feet. The thunder struck its big bass drum Behind the gray sky sheet. The lightning waved its bright baton To change the measured beat. Then raindrops took the west wind’s hand And marched right down our street. Flowers For Mother
I never have a special day
To give flowers to my mother; I give them to her every day To show how much I love her. When I sweep the kitchen floor,
Or care for baby brother, Run on errands, or make the beds, I’m giving flowers to Mother. It’s lots of fun pretending
And to hear my mother say, ”Thank you, dear, for all the flowers You’ve given me today.” |
Boże Narodzenie
Boże Narodzenie to piękny czas
Śnieg leży biały i gruby Jemiołę trudno znaleźć a ostrokrzew trudno zerwać. Prezenty zawinięte w papier świąt.
Siedzą wokół drzewa tak jasnego Dzieci mocno śpią w łóżkach Gdy Mikołaj przychodzi nocą. Świecidełka wokół okien jasne
różowe, pomarańczowe, czerwone i białe Pobłyskują w wieczornym świetle Och, cóż za śliczny widok. Zimowe Przyjemności
Jakież bogactwo wesołych rzeczy
Dobra, stara zima zawsze przynosi! Lód do jeżdżenia na łyżwach, górki do zjeżdżania na sankach
Nie wiem, co bardziej lubimy Gry do grania, kukurydzę do smażenia -
Północ wydaje się zbyt wcześnie by skończyć Książki do czytania głośno nocą
piosenki do śpiewania, opowieści do pisania!
